The Facilities Maintenance Technician Certificate is a career-laddering certificate aimed at providing a thorough understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems of buildings and the fundamental hands-on skills to troubleshoot, service, and maintain installed equipment in a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Graduates will learn to install, operate, maintain and repair control, piping, and mechanical systems in large commercial, medical, institutional, and industrial buildings. Courses also cover troubleshooting skills, problem solving methods, and electrical concepts. Interrelationships of building systems and safety concerns will be emphasized. In addition, the graduate will be familiar with mechanical controls; electrical controls; and structural maintenance including painting, lock management, and work control. With the completion of additional coursework, the graduate can earn additional Engineering Technology-related certificates and/or an Engineering Technology AAS Degree.
Graduation Requirements
- Total Credit Hours: 35 credit hours in courses numbered 100 and above
- Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.00 (‘C’) or better for all work applicable toward the degree that was completed at Richland
- Residency: 8 credit hours or more at Richland
