Environmental Sustainability Certificate (300S)

The Environmental Sustainability certificate provides students with an educational foundation in the skills required to enter industrial and environmental careers. Students will develop a broad understanding of energy issues and resources, gain in-depth knowledge of the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) process for major industrial sources, and have hand-on experiences in conducting CCS/environmental experiments and surveys. Students will examine CO2 capture and transport methods, CO2 utilization options, geologic carbon sequestration, Monitoring, Verification, and Accounting (MVA) of stored CO2, renewable energy sources, and other low carbon technologies to mitigate climate change. Students will conduct seismic refraction and 2D and 3D ground penetrating radar surveys, calculate terrestrial and soil carbon sequestration and personal energy consumption, deliver CCS outreach presentations, and perform rock/mineral identification from core samples. 

 

Certificates less than 16 credit hours are not eligible for financial aid.

Graduation Requirements

1. Total Credit Hours: 11 credit hours in courses numbered 100 and above
2. Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.00 (‘C’) or better for all work applicable toward the degree that was completed at Richland
3. Residency: 6 credit hours or more at Richland
