2024-2025 Course Catalog

Academic Standards

Students are considered to be in good standing if they meet the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, are eligible to re-enroll at the College, and are not on academic probation or suspension. Programs with additional standards that must be met for students to remain in good standing list those requirements in official publications such as the College Catalog.

Semester and cumulative attempted hours are located on the unofficial and official transcripts. Attempted hours are also used to calculate Satisfactory Academic Progress to qualify for federal and state financial aid.

A student who fails to achieve the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 may be placed on academic probation.Failure to achieve a cumulative 2.0 GPA in the subsequent semester after being placed on Academic Probation may result in Academic Suspension (dismissal from the College) for one or more semesters, excluding the summer term.

A student may appeal following the Student Grievance Policy (4.15.3).

Graduation

A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher, depending on the program of study, is required to receive an associate’s degree or certificate. Specific programs may require a higher program GPA for graduation. Courses numbered below 100 are excluded in the cumulative grade point average but will be included in the semester grade report beginning Spring 2000.

Probation

A student may be placed on academic probation for failure to achieve the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 required for good standing.

A student on academic probation is required to make an appointment to meet with their assigned Student Success Coach to discuss career and educational goals. The Coach may suggest enrolling in a reduced number of courses to improve chances for success, a different program of study, or repeating courses previously taken with a grade of “D” or “F.” The student may wish to utilize the Academic Success Center, Room S134, for tutorial assistance.

The student must achieve at least a 2.0 GPA during the semesters following being placed on academic probation until they achieve the GPA required to be in good standing.

Suspension

Failure to achieve a 2.0 GPA will result in academic suspension from the College for one or more semesters, excluding the Summer term. An appeals procedure is available through the Student Grievance Policy. Information on both processes is available on the Richland website.

Health Professions GPA Requirements

Many Health Profession programs have higher GPA requirements than the minimum 2.0 required by the College. The specific requirements are listed in the Instructional Program portion of this Catalog under the “Other Graduation Requirements” section of each health program or on the Health Profession web pages, which can be accessed at www.richland.edu/health.
