Emergency Telecommunications Specialist Certificate (019C)

The Emergency Telecommunications Specialist Certificate is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in an emergency communications center. The program includes coursework in criminal justice fundamentals, providing a foundational understanding of the legal and procedural aspects of emergency response and public safety. Students also gain proficiency in investigative reporting, learning how to document emergency situations accurately, communicate key details, and assist in incident management. Additionally, the program emphasizes professional speaking, ensuring students can effectively and clearly communicate in high-pressure situations, both with the public and emergency responders. This certificate prepares graduates to work as emergency dispatchers or telecommunicators, capable of managing critical incidents, coordinating emergency services, and maintaining clear and calm communication in fast-paced environments. 

 

Graduation Requirements

  1. Total Credit Hours: 21 credit hours in courses numbered 100 and above
  2. Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.00 (‘C’) or better for all work applicable toward the degree that was completed at Richland
  3. Residency: 11 credit hours or more at Richland Community College
