2024-2025 Course Catalog

Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Technology Associate in Applied Science (1000)

The Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Technology Program prepares students for entry-level technician positions and career advancement in the diesel truck industry through accredited curriculum and hands-on lab experience. The maintenance and repair of the modern, more sophisticated diesel engines require highly-skilled mechanics. This program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to analyze, diagnose, repair or replace, and maintain a variety of vehicular concerns related to diesel trucks, diesel drivability diagnosis, and the following diesel systems: electrical, fuel & emissions, engine & transmission, heating & air conditioning, drive train, suspension & steering, and brakes. Advanced diagnostic, maintenance, and repair tools are introduced. Students pursuing the AAS degree will gain real-world experience through internship opportunities in various shop environments.

Graduation Requirements

  1. Total Credit Hours: 63 credit hours in courses numbered 100 and above
  2. Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.00 (‘C’) or better for all work applicable toward the degree that was completed at Richland
  3. Residency: 15 credit hours or more at Richland Community College

Additional Program Considerations

Students attending full-time who begin in spring may not finish in a two-year time frame. All AAS degrees include a required minimum of 15 general education credits.

Students who complete the degree will have acquired the tools necessary for entering the workforce as most facilities do not provide basic mechanic tools.
