SURGT 120 Principles of Surgical Technology I

introduces students to a basic overview in pharmacological drugs and anesthetics, biotechnical sciences application, patient consent, emergency situations, and death and dying during the surgical procedure. Principles of infection control are covered and emphasis is placed on surgical incisions, hemostasis, wound healing & closure, drains and dressings, grafts and tissue replacement material use and application, and an in-depth understanding of equipment used to perform basic surgical procedures. This course is applicable toward all certificates and degrees (credit hours 4.0, lecture hours 4.0).

completion of SURGT 110 and completion of or concurrent enrollment in SURGT 125, SURGT 128, and BIOL 201 [grade of 'C' or higher]
