IT 245 Network Security
is designed to provide a fundamental understanding of network security principles and implementations. Mapping fully to CompTIA's "Security +" certification objectives,
IT 245 focuses on the five main areas of network security: General Security - authentication methods, common network attacks; Communication Security - remote access, e-mail, the Web, Directory/File transfer; Infrastructure Security - network devices & media, security topologies, DMZs, Extranets; Cryptography Security - asymmetric and symmetric algorithms, PKI certificates; and Operational/Organizational Security - disaster recovery, business continuity, forensics. Students learn through classroom instruction as well as a variety of extensive action-learning experiences and research projects simulating the role of a security professional. This course is applicable toward all certificates and degrees (credit hours 3.0, lecture hours 2.0, lab hours 2.0).
