HUMAN 160 Cultural Expressions of Gender

investigates key topics about gender and sexuality from a variety of perspectives: philosophy, history, visual art, music, literature, drama, and architecture. Topics include issues such as the physically gendered body; gender and violence; and the sexualization of the (female) body. The aim is to explore the complexity of artistic responses to these issues and to gain a deeper understanding of ways that art shapes and has been shaped by cultural understanding of gender, biological sex, and sexuality.
