AFAM 100 Intro to African American Studies

survey of the history and culture of African Americans that introduces students to foundational information on the humanistic approach in the study of African American heritage, life, struggles, tragedies and successes in an attempt to be viewed as human beings by American society. The course will consider perspectives from the areas of oral histories, film, literary and artistic scholarships, and historial analyses. Successful completion of formal writing assignments is necessary for completion of the course. This course is applicable toward all certificates and degrees; group requirements include social science; areas of concentration include African-american studies (credit hours 3.0, lecture hours 3.0).
