Medical Assisting Certificate (2500)
The Medical Assisting program provides students with educational experiences to achieve entry-level knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to perform administrative and clinical duties of medical assistants in ambulatory care facilities under the direction of a provider. The program prepares students to take a national medical assistant certification exam.

Selective Admission Requirements
All admitted students are required to undergo a fingerprint-based background check in the first semester. An initial drug screen also part of conditional admission. Other health and safety requirements such as required immunizations are found on the program’s web page.
Prerequisites to Apply
- H.S. diploma or GED
- Eligibility for MATH 110 or MATH 113 or completion of MATH 099 with a ‘C’ or better
- Eligibility for ENGL 101
- Completion of HLTH 140 Medical Terminology with grade of ‘C’ or better

Graduation Requirements
- Total Credit Hours: 36 credit hours in courses numbered 100 and above
- Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.00 (‘C’) or better for all work applicable toward the degree that was completed at Richland
- Residency: 15 credit hours or more at Richland Community College
- Pass all psychomotor and affective competencies in core curriculum
- Adhere to Medical Assisting Code of Conduct and Standards of Practice
