HIST 203 The History of Women in America

provides a broad survey of women's experiences in the United States from the 15th century to the present and their cross-cultural influences. Certain expectations about the roles women have in society have existed. This class will focus on how and why those societal ideals have altered over time and how those ideals have conflicted with the realities of women's lives. The course will focus on gender roles, family life, race, work, reform, politics, education, sexuality, and culture. Students will learn about both ordinary and extraordinary persons and groups of women who comprise women's history. This course is applicable toward all certificates and degrees; group requirements include social science; areas of concentration include history, social science (credit hours 3.0, lecture hours 3.0).
