HIST 152 World History II since c. 1500

addresses the history of the world from c. 1500 to the present, emphasizing non-Western perspectives and global patterns rather than nationalist narratives. This course surveys the age of transoceanic encounters, the rise of global capitalism, imperialism, industrialization, revolution, and decolonization. We examine how European expansion reshaped economies, ecosystems, and societies worldwide; how diverse regions responded to and transformed global systems; how conflicts reconfigured nations and empires; and how movements for independence and equality redefined the modern era. Readings and discussions encourage students to analyze primary sources, consider multiple perspectives, and assess how global forces since 1500 continue to shape contemporary societies. This course is applicable toward all certificates and degrees; group requirements include social science; areas of concentration include history, social science (credit hours 3.0, lecture hours 3.0).
