ENGT 234 Pump Applications
covers the operation of dynamic and positive displacement pumps. Discussion of positive displacement pumps focuses on those types not covered in the industrial fluid power courses. Pump theory is discussed in detail to provide students with skills to troubleshoot and evaluate pump systems. Course topics include pump classification, head calculations, specific speed, pump curves, fluid viscosity, net positive suction head, cavitation, pump corrosion, seals, packings, series pump systems, and parallel pump systems. Students use hands-on exercises to investigate centrifugal pumps, diaphragm pumps, and peristaltic pumps. This course is applicable toward all certificates, AAS, ALS (credit hours 2.0, lecture hours 1.0, lab hours 2.0).
