ENGT 100 Manufacturing Processes
is designed to give a basic understanding of the various processes used in industry. The student will understand how processes of component manufacturing relate to product design and business decision-making. This course covers several process categories including metal fabrication, casting, welding, machining, plastics molding, surface finishing, heat treatment, and assembly. Bulk processing methods common to the food, chemical, and petroleum industries are also explored. Upon completion of this course, students will understand how people, processes, information, and materials are successfully integrated to produce sellable products. Course information is delivered using lectures, videos, field trips, and demonstrations. This course is applicable toward all certificates and degrees; areas of concentration include manufacturing technology/machining (credit hours 3.0, lecture hours 3.0).
