ENGL 201 American Literature to 1900
is a historical survey of American literature from its beginning to 1900. Some of the authors read include Poe, Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Melville, Twain, Whitman, and Dickinson. Particularly examined are the cultural and political milieus of the periods in which this literature was created. This course is applicable toward all certificates and degrees; group requirements include humanities; areas of concentration include English (credit hours 3.0, lecture hours 3.0). IAI:H3 914
